Any item that can be carried to our events are welcome. However, please be mindful of the list of items that we do not accept.

Summary List of Items RKS does not coach repair of:

  1. ICT - handheld devices, computers, and their peripherals
  2. Dangerous Items - shower heaters, microwaves (certain locations might accept, please list in your booking)
  3. Contraband - High-powered Lasers, e-cigarettes, industrial machines, etc
  4. Licensed Repairs - Large Battery Devices, e-bikes, PMDs, etc This includes all electrical peripherals or devices associated with the devices.

YES! However, we are better than repairing your stuff, we coach you to repair your own items. Thus, you can learn some knowledge about fixing things and making good sustainable choices. You are also welcome to use our tools during our public events and get opinions from our RKS coaches. It is ALL FREE!

You can bring up to 2 items for each visit.

Yes! You are part of the repair process. The coach will help you step by step of the way.

Although most items are repairable, there are many factors that decide what is fit to be used again or can be repaired. The good news is that at RKS, things have more than 60% chance of getting fixed.

Some items may require you to purchase spare parts unique to the repair item (proprietary parts). You may need to book another time slot with us to coach you to install the part.

Repair of items can also lead to other issues or cause other issues that might not be expected. These issues might also be negative outcomes like fixing a casette recorder radio may cause faunctioning features to fail. These failures are largely caused by the complex network of components that may cause other components to fail. 

We will repair everything that DOES NOT fall in the 4 categories listed:
  1. Items with repair available in businesses
    some e.g. ICT - handphones, laptops, computers, printers, scanners, tablets, monitors, other ICT peripherals etc / Bicycles / Attire Alterations
  2. Dangerous Item (As a participant, you are involved in the repair)
    some e.g. - microwave ovens, large battery devices, industrial & commercial 3-phase equipment, electrical circuits that handles liquids or water (like boilers, water heaters), etc
  3. Contraband Items
    some e.g. - High power laser pointers, e-cigarettes, etc
  4. All Licensed Repairs including their electrical accessories
    some examples - e-Bikes, PMDs, etc.

Your booking status will be advised latest 4 days (Thursday) before the event.

Please do write to us if we have not attended to your booking by Friday. Thank you.

 

When our booking closes, it is usually full booking with a waiting list. As such, the likelihood of space is quite low. We will prefer that you try booking your time slot the following month as Repair Kopitiam operates on the last Sunday monthly. 

If your booking is rejected, we will usually let you know the reason. Common reasons why we reject bookings:

  1. One or both items are items that we do not repair currently.
  2. None of the coaches attending the event is familiar with the item to coach you to repair. (As we are a DIY repair movement, our coaches can only share and guide you to the best of their ability.)
  3. The item that you are bringing is considered dangerous to repair or needs special tools.
  4. We are unable to clarify with you regarding the item and it's fault. 

Note: This list is not exhaustive. It is just examples of why we reject some repairs. 

To check your status, please LOGIN and check your event booking. 

Note: no confirmation email will be sent to you. The status should be updated by the end of Thursday (4 days) before the event. Please let us know if it is not updated via email to [email protected] by stating the following:

  1. Your Name
  2. Repair Kopitiam location that you've booked
  3. Your login email 

 

The time slot booking starts about 16 days before each event monthly and closes 5 days before the event. Most locations are full in the first few days so book early to avoid disappointment.

To change your booking time slot or your items to fix, please log in and cancel your current booked time slot and choose the new time slot that suits you to book or same time slot to re-enter your items.

Please note that if you cancel your time slot, you may not be able to return to that time slot again as bookings can be quite brisk. 

If you have choosen to add your booking to the waiting list, it means that:

  1. when there are still time slots available, you will be given these existing slots.
  2. You can accept any time slot given to you after we confirm that there are slots available.
  3. You time slots may be offered to you as late as 2 days before the event.
